It was a busy "rest of the week" at work, and I honesty didn't get a lot done in
the garage. Today I spent some time making some final preparations, and the
progress was considerable.
First of all, I needed to make a spot for the air compressor, which I did go up
to Lowes Aviation Supply and buy this morning... it's not here yet, I need to grab
a friend, a pickup truck (okay, a friend WITH a pickup truck) and a couple of ratchet
straps and go haul the thing back here.
I don't have any pictures of the work (who wants to see my messy garage anyway?
Show of hands?), but here's what it looked like when I got done. First of
all, I pulled one of my metal shelving units out of the corner by the breaker box
and split it in two to make two work surfaces. This wall has electricity;
the wall directly opposite it does not, and I needed a place with power where I
could set up my bench grinder, and later a bandsaw, drill press, and combination
belt/disc sander. I hung up the kites. The airplane kite is upside down,
but I tell people it's at the top of an inside loop. It's glowing because
I slipped a small flourescent light in there (hokey, I know, but the kids think
it makes a cool night light when all the lights are otherwise off in the garage...
okay, I do too!). Don't worry, it's usually OFF, even though it doesn't get
hot, because I don't want to risk burning down the house and taking my airplane
with it.
That corner with the kite is where the air compressor will stand... I want it close
to the breaker box so I don't have to make a long 220V run. I have the parts
on hand for installing a 20A 220V circuit dedicated to the compressor, which has
a 15A 220V motor.
There's the ship kite... I set up an older computer I have on the corner of that
white desk... that way I can quickly check for parts, ideas, etc. if I get stuck
at a spot on the project, without having to run up and down the stairs. Finally
found a place for my
One Six Right
poster--the side of the otherwise blank fridge.
The fridge is stocked with beverages... That white desk was set up primarily
for use as a packing station for when we sell things on eBay, thus all the boxes,
tape, etc.
As you can see, I have not yet put away the aircraft tools...
And there's a view of the other side.
The trailer is all tucked away in the corner, and I set up the serving table in
front of it, so I wouldn't bump my shins on the trailer tongue-- and also to give
me just a little more space.
